Songs for a Fallen Angel was originally released in 1999 on the Danú label. It tracked John's life through the mid-90's and started life as an 8 track EP. It included two songs ("Crime" and "The Devil you know") which were later discarded in favour of "If all she has is you". "Justified", "In your eyes" and "The Fisher King" (on Anúna's Classical Brit award nominated album "Deep Dead Blue"). The album was re-released 2006 after Danú passed ownership to John.
"If all she has is you" was covered on Owen Brady's debut album "Prepare to be happy", released in 2008 by Sony BMG. "Swimming in the Barrow" was covered by Lynn Hilary on her album "Take me with you". His previously unreleased song "The Cherry Tree" appeared on Fiona Wight's debut album "The last Rose".
Reviews were very good, particularly in the Irish press and the album has made many fans with consistent sales since 2006. In 2009 it was entered into the world's largest independent music awards the JPF awards and was nominated in the category of the Best Adult Contemporary album.
